5 Tips To Improve Your iPhone 7/7 Plus's Battery Life

Think you know your iPhone? We’ve got plenty of tips and tricks to help improve your overall experience with your device, whether it’s to improve battery life, or sharing our favorite apps. This series of ‘Utomic Hacks’ will feature plenty of our personal secrets to keep you updated!

Utomic Hack Series #1

1. Disable 'Background App Refresh' for unimportant apps.

Disabling background app refresh is definitely a big battery life saver, as many apps such as games, do not need to be constantly refreshing in the background of your phone. When you continue to install more apps on your phone, more of these apps start sucking out your precious battery life by refreshing in the background. Simply toggle these apps to ‘off’ and start enjoying your phone much longer!

Step 1: Open ‘Settings’ and click on ‘General’.

Step 2: Click on ‘Background App Refresh’.

Step 3: Turn off any apps that you do not use very frequently.

2. Manually choose your location settings.

It’s a great feature to be able to track your phone when you lose it thanks to its superior location tracking functionalities. Although, it is very inconvenient when those same location tracking services are being unnecessarily used from apps! By manually choosing which apps use your location in the background, or at all, you will save ample amount of battery life.

Step 1: Open ‘Settings’ and click on ‘General’.

Step 2: Click on ‘Privacy’.

Step 3: Click on ‘Location Services’ and then manually select which apps can use your location.

3. Reduce motion.

Apple introduced a new feature to iPhones with their cool animations effects, although these cool, and mainly small differences, eat up a huge chunk of your battery life. Simply toggle the motion button off to start saving more battery!

Step 1: Open ‘Settings’ and click on ‘General’.

Step 2: Click on ‘Accessibility’.

Step 3: Toggle the ‘Reduce Motion’ to the ‘on’ function.

4. Relax, Siri.

Smart assistants such as Siri, serve great function, especially when it might be a little difficult to type. Although, Siri might give too many suggestions at times, like when you are simply typing in the Spotlight search bar on your iPhone. You may like it, but would you rather prefer to have your phone die faster? Probably not. Turn this function off to conserve your battery.

Step 1: Open ‘Settings’ and click on ‘General’.

Step 2: Click on ‘Spotlight Search’.

Step 3: Turn ‘Siri Suggestions’ OFF.

5. Turn off ‘Raise to Wake’.

This was actually a pretty cool feature that Apple introduced with the new iOS 10 system. You pick up your phone and it (usually) automatically wakes up. It’s pretty convenient and you can get used to it, very easily. Unfortunately, this cool feature does eat up a ton of your battery life. So turning it off is highly advisable if you are looking to get more juice from your phone (and most likely you are since you are reading this blog article). It’s not really too much effort to simply press the home button and you’ll appreciate it more when your phone lasts much longer.

Step 1: Open ‘Settings’ and click on ‘Display & Brightness’.

Step 2: Click on ‘Background App Refresh’.

Step 3: Turn the ‘Raise to Wake’  toggle OFF.
